At Arauco, sustainability isn’t just a responsibility—it’s who we are. As a company built on wood, one of the world’s most renewable resources, our connection to the environment runs deep. The health of our global forests, our air and water, and the communities where we live and work directly shapes our ability to serve customers today and for generations to come.

Protecting the environment means taking a long-term view—one that balances growth with care and innovation with accountability. At Arauco, sustainability guides everything from how we responsibly source raw materials and manage our operations, to how we invest in forest stewardship globally, reduce emissions, and continuously look for ways to do better. These efforts are not only good for the planet, they strengthen our business and reinforce trust with our customers, partners, and neighbors.

Equally important is the role people play in sustainability. Every decision—big or small—adds up. When we choose efficient processes, prioritize safety and environmental compliance, or think creatively about reducing waste, we’re actively shaping a more sustainable future. Sustainability is a shared effort, and it works best when it’s embedded into our daily actions and company culture.

Sustainability matters because it aligns with our values, supports resilient communities, and ensures Arauco remains a strong, responsible leader in the wood products industry. By caring for the environment today, we’re protecting opportunity tomorrow—and that’s something we can all be proud of.

Darwin the frog is more than just our company mascot—he represents curiosity, resilience, and our deep connection to the natural world.

Inspired by Darwin’s frog (Rhinoderma darwinii), a tiny amphibian native to the temperate forests of Chile and Argentina, our mascot is a reminder of why sustainability and respect for nature are at the heart of everything we do at ARAUCO.

Just like the forests we work to protect, Darwin symbolizes balance: innovation rooted in nature, and progress guided by responsibility.

🌿 Did You Know? Fun Facts About Darwin’s Frog

  • Discovered by Charles Darwin during his voyage on the HMS Beagle in Chile, which is how the species got its name.

  • One of the world’s most unique frogs—male Darwin’s frogs carry and protect their developing tadpoles inside their vocal sacs until they emerge as fully formed froglets.

  • Masters of camouflage, Darwin’s frogs blend into leaf litter thanks to their small size, earthy colors, and pointed, leaf-like snout.

  • Tiny but mighty—they typically measure just 2–3 centimeters (about an inch) long.

  • Endangered in the wild, primarily due to habitat loss and disease, making conservation efforts critical to their survival.
